Biometric modality: Voice – use cases

- Call-based organisations and financial institutions have increasingly adopted speaker recognition during the last decade to enhance their customer service by expediting identity checks automatically in order to streamline transactions.
- Speaker identification search systems can also be implemented covertly without the user’s knowledge to identify talkers in a discussion, alert automated systems of speaker changes, check if a user is already enrolled in a system, etc.
- Medical notes – hands-free and identity assured dictation notes from doctors, surgeons and pathologists, including the completion of complex medical forms and reports.
- In-car hands-free communication – selecting radio stations, music from linked devices, initiating phone calls and, in the future, issuing commands, with a verified identity check, for autonomous, self-drive vehicles.
- Fighter planes – verified identity check of pilot/crew to allow them to issue voice commands to control non-critical cockpit functions
- Multi-factor authentication – using voice recognition along with other biometric modalities and/or non-biometric methods.
