Over the years our biometrics community has conducted much testing around facial recognition technology which has shown that biometrics have become a reliable way to identify people quickly and efficiently.\n\nTouchless technology is important in the context of rebuilding travel as we emerge from COVID-19. \nThreats from hostile states\, terrorists and serious criminals have demonstrated that the technology has an important role to play in national security and border management. \nAutomation has helped to improve manual processes\, making them more efficient and secure. This same knowledge will allow the biometrics industry to seek and remedy vulnerabilities\, as well as enable us to prevent new attacks by producing better products and services. \nOne challenge we are facing as an industry is that while we can quantify performance\, we are still discussing how to quantify privacy. There was a reminder also in our US member meeting of the importance of the human in the loop\, not leaving the final decision to a machine. \nThese discussions will continue at this year’s Institute Congress held throughout the biometrics month of October. More details and how to register can be found on the Congress 2021 event page. Its primary function is to provide a structured pathway through the factors that may influence or constrain a biometric application. \nWe presented the first draft of the framework to members and key stakeholders at events in London\, Australia and New Zealand at the end of last year and consulted extensively with members. \nOn the day:\nWe’ve chosen a border management scenario which a team of experts will use to work through a section of the framework each. This is a demonstration of the tool using a random real-life scenario we hope all our members will benefit from. \nYou will gain invaluable insights into the methodology of using the framework\, even if your work is not borders focused. We would like all our members to attend. \nWe’re expecting and encouraging lots of interaction in this online meeting. We want your thoughts and questions which our panel will discuss to give you the best start getting to grips with the framework. \nYou will get a copy of the framework when you have registered for this event and we have received payment. \nWhy you should attend this demonstration workshop:\n\n Learn the basics of how to navigate the framework\n Gain insights how this framework provides you with the key considerations of implementing a biometric solution\n Assess where your knowledge gaps are\n Understand better how complex a biometric implementation is and how many stakeholders you need to involve\n\nWho should attend:\n\n Those responsible for policy\, process\, technology and decision-making\n Any sector using or supplying biometrics\n\nClick here to find out more about the Biometrics Institute Good Practice Framework. \n\nRegistration:\nThis event is reserved exclusively for members who will receive a copy of the Biometrics Institute Good Practice Framework upon payment. \nIf you cannot attend the event\, there’s no need to miss out. You can register in the same way to receive a copy of the framework and the recording of the event to watch in your own time. \nCost per member: GBP100 plus VAT \nPlease note that attendance at the live event\, provision of the recording and of the framework itself all require pre-payment. \n\nIMPORTANT DISCLAIMER NOTIFICATION: \nThe Biometrics Institute provides training and course material as a tool to help you conduct due diligence.  While the Institute has used reasonable care to ensure the accuracy of the material and course\, due to the content and variable inputs during and after the process of implementing biometrics\, the Institute cannot be held accountable for outcomes or compliance. The material and course have been prepared for informational purposes only and are not intended to provide legal or compliance advice. You should consult your legal advisor should you require advice on the legal or compliance aspects of the material or course.     URL:https://www.biometricsinstitute.org/event/launch-workshop-the-biometrics-institute-good-practice-framework/ LOCATION:London\, London\, United Kingdom CATEGORIES:Courses and Seminars,Online Meetings GEO:51.5073509;-0.1277583 END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=Europe/London:20200625T120000 DTEND;TZID=Europe/London:20200625T150000 DTSTAMP:20250422T135241 CREATED:20200407T170409Z LAST-MODIFIED:20230221T090210Z UID:10000152-1593086400-1593097200@www.biometricsinstitute.org SUMMARY:Online meeting: Biometrics\, hygiene and adapting in a time of crisis DESCRIPTION:7:00 EDT (New York)\n12:00 BST (London)\n19:00 SGT (Singapore)\n21:00 AEST (Sydney) \nBiometrics Institute events provide an extremely important platform for the dialogue between our members and key stakeholders committed to the responsible and ethical use of biometrics. \nAs the world faces new and unprecedented challenges and opportunities\, building a resilient community and continuing our conversations on good practices has never been more important. \nIn response to our members requests and the need for adaption with the crisis we face we are shining a spotlight on hygiene and biometrics. \nThe meeting will be divided into two parts\, a discussion on biometrics\, hygiene and contactless and then a focus on responsible and ethical use for biometrics at a time of crisis\, asking\, how do we get this right?  \nConfirmed presenters include: \n\n Thirimachos Bourlai\, Member\, Academic Research and Innovation Group\, Biometrics Institute\n Patrick Grother\, Biometric Standards and Testing Lead\, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)\n Sam Jefferies\, Senior Registration and Identity Management Officer\, UNHCR – The UN Refugee Agency\n Niall McCann\, Policy Advisor\, Legal Identity\, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)\n Alexandra Tarasova-Cammareri\, Regional SCOPE Coordinator – Beneficiary Services\, World Food Programme\n\nYour questions and interaction in the chatroom are very much encouraged to guide the discussion. \nDiscussion sessions focus on: \nBiometrics and hygiene – is contactless the only answer? \n\n What smart phone based options exist?\n What about other modalities?\n Testing & privacy\n Are policy changes required?\n\nResponsible and ethical use for biometrics in a crisis – how do we get this right? \n\n What are the potential risks around biometrics and how can they be addressed – balancing security\, health and privacy risks\n How can we ensure the continuation of biometrics that is good for society?\n\n\nMany thanks to our sponsor: \n\n\nSponsorship opportunities are available for this meeting.
